Women’s History Month

Transgender Women throughout History

In celebration of Women’s History Month, this campaign honored transgender women who have shaped culture, broken barriers, and opened doors for future generations. While mainstream narratives often overlook or erase their contributions, this series brought their stories to the forefront.

The campaign focused on visibility, legacy, and the connection between the trailblazing work of trans women and the dreams of trans youth today. Each post recognized a different individual whose impact continues to move science, art, business, activism, and community leadership forward.

Before there was SOPHIE or Kim Petras, there was Wendy Carlos.

As a multiple Grammy award winning musician and one of the great innovators in synthesized and electronic music, Wendy composed the film scores for The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, and Disney's Tron. Often referred to as the founder of electronic music, Wendy's music sounds both futuristic and timeless.

Wendy was also a pioneer in transgender visibility. Coming out publicly in the 1970's, she credits hearing others talk about their experiences in helping her realize she could live openly as a her authentic self.

Wendy Carlos is one of the most influential composers living today. It's her work as a trailblazer in her field that empowers young transgender people today to achieve their dreams.

Transgender women have always been at the forefront of innovation, not just in forging the way towards a more inclusive world, but also in creating cutting edge culture. Their contributions to science, the arts, business, and beyond have left a lasting impact that will influence future generations for many years to come.

This Women's History Month, we'll be highlighting a few of these pioneers who make it possible for transgender youth to pursue their dreams today.

“I created G.L.I.T.S. because I am the very community I’m helping, and I don’t want us to fail. I want us to have the blueprint for what change can look like.”

Ceyenne Doroshow is an author, advocate, and non profit founder and executive director. Described as one of the godmothers of the Black Trans Lives Matter Movement, her work is rooted in ensuring people can pursue their dreams in supportive, inclusive communities. “The more we create in our own realm, the more power we’re going to have as a people in the nation. We fall short if we’re not looking at our younger siblings or our niblings in the way we should."

Ceyenne's tireless work for her community is empowering future generations of transgender people to be able to thrive as their authentic selves.
