Pride Month 2025 Cross Platform Social Campaign

What is it like to be a trans young person in america

Launched during Pride Month 2025, What It’s Like To Be a Transgender Teen In America is a social media series that centers the everyday experiences of transgender teens, told entirely through their own lens. The campaign moves away from the outside narratives often imposed on trans youth and instead highlights their real, unfiltered lives: who they are, what they care about, and how being trans is just one part of their identity.

Format

Each feature includes three parts:

  • Portraits of Self
Casual, candid photos taken by the teens themselves or their friends. Mirror selfies, film-style snapshots, and photos that reflect their personal style and everyday energy.

  • Essentials Flat Lay
Inspired by “what’s in my bag” culture, each teen shares a photo of their daily essentials. These items reflect personality and identity—fidgets, books, sunglasses, pins, art supplies, and anything else that feels like them.

  • Written Reflection
A short narrative in their own voice about what it’s like to be themselves right now. Teens talk about identity, creativity, misunderstanding, confidence, and what brings them joy.

Caption Examples:

Meet 19 year old Chazzie (she/her). She’s a writer, a fashion lover, a music fan, a sister, and a future policymaker.

Chazzie has been sharing her story since she was 11 to help others understand that being transgender is just one part of who she is. Her identity does not limit her. It expands what’s possible. Transgender and nonbinary kids have always been here and Chazzie is making sure the world remembers.

Chazzie’s story is powerful because it’s real. And she’s just getting started.
Help us keep stories like hers in the spotlight.

“The word trans is everywhere right now, but it’s not telling the whole story.”

Meet Hayden (she/her). She’s 19, studying to become a medical esthetician, and dreams of launching her own skincare brand. She finds joy in late-night laughter with friends, flipping through old Vogue issues, and creating a life that’s full of beauty, purpose, and pride.

Hayden speaks honestly about the challenges many transgender young people face. The waiting. The uncertainty. The pressure of being reduced to headlines instead of being seen as whole people. Her story is a reminder of what’s at stake and what’s possible.

Stories like Hayden’s are changing the way people understand what it means to be trans in America, but this work only continues with your support. If you want to see more young people like Hayden thrive, now is the time to act.

Your support makes these stories visible. Your support keeps this movement growing.

Meet Daniel (he/him). At 19, he juggles classes, work, and a full schedule, finding peace in quiet moments outdoors. With so much noise around transgender identities, he stays grounded by focusing on joy and showing up as a safe space for others.

Daniel’s story is part of a bigger shift happening across the country. Transgender youth are not passive to the world around them. They are shaping it.

GenderCool’s work amplifying stories like Daniel’s only continues with your support. If you believe in a future where transgender young people can live, lead, and thrive, now is the time to act.
