Why is your nonprofit ignoring Next-Gen donors?
Small and midsize nonprofits are leaving money on the table because they’re not taking advantage of modern fundraising techniques.
Over the past few months, I’ve spoken with many local, mission driven organizations while searching for my next full-time role, and I keep noticing the same thing. There’s very little emphasis placed on social media or digital fundraising. Most strategies still rely on a couple of email appeals each year, stock photos with unedited Canva templates on social media, and boilerplate language that feels disconnected from real impact. At best, it fails to attract new donors. At worst, it makes the organization appear out of touch.
Next generation donors, Millennials and Gen Z, connect with real people and lived experience. They’ve spent most of their lives being marketed to with overconsumption and unattainable standards. What moves them now is authenticity and transparency. They want to feel part of a community and know their contributions are making an actual difference.
Digital storytelling is how we bridge the gap between a mission and the people you want to reach. Hearing directly from the people involved in the organization turns impact into something donors can see. It's how next-gen donors feel invited to be a part of a community instead of like just a transaction.
This is the kind of work I care about most. Storytelling and community building have always been at the center of both my personal and professional life. I love bringing my creativity to help organizations marry those values into strategy to reach funding goals and expand impact. So, if your organization is thinking about how to better connect with next-gen donors and build a stronger digital presence, I'd love to connect.
